[vsnet-alert 6034] ES Dra outburst - what type of cataclysmic variable ?

Dear colleagues,

On 2001, June 24.220 UT, Mike Simonsen reported an outburst of ES Dra
(vsnet-outburst 2435). I started a CCD photometry session on 2001, June
25/26, using the 0.35-m f/6.3 telescope at CBA Belgium Observatory and a
ST-7 CCD camera. The complete light curve of that night (available on my web
site - see address below) shows modulations of about 0.11 magnitude, during
a coverage of 4.7 hours. An attempt to find a periodicity in the ES Dra
light curve revealed a weak signal at 0.064 +/- 0.008 d and 0.121 +/- 0.006
d. This last signal is well in line with one of the possible -weak- periods
reported by Andronov (IBVS 3645). It can - however - not be linked to the
published orbital period of 4.24h (Ringwald 1992). More information is
presented at my web site.

Future observations will hopefully allow to secure the classification of ES
Dra, and to confirm the above findings.
