[vsnet-alert 5788] DW Cnc short-term variation cotinues

DW Cnc short-term variation cotinues

Dear Colleagues,

We are currently obtaining a long time-series of DW Cnc, a CV with unknown
nature currently in high state. The object maintains the same brightness
level as on last night. The large-amplitude short-term variation reported
on last night is still prominent. The most remarkable feature is the
recurring fading with an interval of ~0.055 d, with shallower fadings
in between. The waveform is slightly variable, but the main feature looks
common on both nights. An analysis of the combined data yields the strongest
period slight shorter than 0.03 d, but twice this period may be the
fundamental period. The period may reflect either the spin period of
an intermediate polar, or the orbital/superhump period of an ultrashort-period
binary. In either cases, the object warrants further detailed study.
(If the period reflects the superhump one, the system could even be the
"shortest period" permanent superhumper!)

The coherence of the periodicity not being fully estabilished yet, we
encouarge further observations as one of targets of the VSNET Collaboration
team. We would be very grateful to receive additional time-series data on
this object, either via vsnet-campaign-data or personally.

We primarily use vsnet-campaign list for informing the further progress
of observations.

Regards,
Taichi Kato
on behalf of the VSNET Collaboration team
