RX Cha outburst! Rod Stubbing reports that the dwarf nova RX Cha is undergoing a relatively rare outburst. Photometry by Gordon Garradd on the occasion of the 1998 Sep. outburst revealed the presence of superhumps, qualifying the object as a likely SU UMa star. However, the superhump period has not yet been determined precisely, nor further confirmatory observations were obtained. Previous outbursts of RX Cha occurred in 1998 January (single positive observation), 1998 September (long outburst), 1999 December - 2000 January (long outburst, vsnet-alert 3917). Assuming a stable cycle length, the present outburst may be a good candidate for a superoutburst. Being at favorable location, further (intensive) time-resolved photometry is strongly requested. from [vsnet-alert 2255] > An analysis of time-series CCD photometry of RX Cha on Sep. 16 > (vsnet-obs 16007, > http://vsnet.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/vsnet/Mail/obs16000/msg00007.html > vsnet-obs 16008, > http://vsnet.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/vsnet/Mail/obs16000/msg00008.html) > > has yielded a 0.2-mag modulation suggesting the presence of superhumps. > The likely period is 0.08 d.
