The new SN in NGC 3504 might be a subluminous SN II ... we got
BVRI images of the object tonight and it is not blue at all,
so it shouldn't be a very early SN Ia. It may be a 91bg-like
SN Ia, but my bet goes to SN II. It won't get much brighter
than mag 17 even if it is 87A-like SN II and keeps brightening.
Cheers,
