We found a SN in NGC 5172, below are the details.

              SN 2001XXX in NGC 5172

  D. Weisz, M. Modjaz, and W. D. Li, University of California
at Berkeley, on behalf of LOTOSS (cf. IAUC 7514), reports the
discovery with the 0.8-m Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope
(KAIT) of an apparent supernova (mag about 18.5) on unfiltered
images taken on Jan 6.5 UT, Feb 3.5 UT, and Feb 4.5 UT. SN 2001XXX
is located at R.A. = 13h29m16s.93, Decl. = +17o2'41".2 (equinox
2000.0), which is 33".2 west and 25".0 south of the nucleus of
NGC 5172. A KAIT image on 2000 Jun 20.2 UT showed nothing at
this position (limiting magnitude about 19.0). SN 1998cc also
occured in NGC 5172.
