[vsnet-alert 5364] Re: [vsnet-campaign-deltavel 10] RV: PRIMARY ECLIPSE

Hi Sebastian,

No luck in northern New Zealand. Heavy cloud and strong winds - a depression from out of the Coral Sea - here for the past several days. I glimpsed Jupiter briefly about 1000UT but that was all. Next time, perhaps.

Regards,
Stan

Subject: [vsnet-campaign-deltavel 10] RV: PRIMARY ECLIPSE

Dear vsnet friends and everyone involved in delta Velorum observing
campaign:

We're just hours away of the expected primary eclipse of delta Velorum.
Last saturday I observed what seemed a little fading, but it was probably
observational error. Tomorrow night will be a very important step in
confirming the 45.164 day period. But remember we have to wait until
November 21st for a complete confirmation.
Given delta's position in the early morning sky, the comparison star
sequence suggested is:

1.70  gamma Velorum
2.24  iota Carinae
2.25  zeta Puppis
2.49  kappa Velorum

The event should be visible throughout the night for most of us. Predicted
times are:

Beginning:   JD 2451850.19    1 de noviembre 16.35 UT
Mideclipse:  JD 2451850.64   2 de noviembre  03.20 UT
End:              JD 2451851.09   2 de noviembre  14.10 UT

It's cloudy in Buenos Aires, so I'll probably not be able to watch the star. I hope you all have better luck!!!

Best regards,
Sebastian Otero,
Buenos Aires, Argentina.
LIADA.
