(fwd) EROS-BLG-2000-5, Cusp Crossing Forwarded message: caustic-crossing event! Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 13:15:03 -0500 (EST) From: GMAN Account <gman@bustard.phys.nd.edu> Subject: EROS-BLG-2000-5, Cusp Crossing Dear Colleagues- Observations by the Microlensing Planet Search (MPS) Collaboration of on-going event EROS-BLG-2000-5 indicate a rapid brightening of this event. It has brightened by 0.45 mag over the past 9 hours which suggests that the cusp crossing feature recently suggestted by the PLANET Collaboration is already underway. High resolution spectra were previously obtained by D. Minniti, B. Barbuy, E. Bica, S. Ortolani, V. Hill (ESO), R.M. Rich (UCLA, USA), K.H. Cook (LLNL, USA), T. Vandehei (UCSD, USA) with the VLT, and these indicate that the source is a late K (4000 K) giant. Further spectroscopy during the cusp crossing is strongly encouraged as this may yield details about the center-to-limb variation of the spectral lines.
