Dear colleagues, I herewith announce the detection of an outburst of Var66 Cyg, a highly unstudied dwarf nova. My observation was made on 2000 June 02.053 UT, using a 0.35-m f/6.3 SCT and unfiltered CCD camera at CBA Belgium Observatory. The object was at mag. 16.6 (unfiltered). Var66 Cyg was discovered by Sergei Antipin (Sternberg Astronomical Institute) on Moscow (Crimea) archive plates. It is located at 21h44m03.7s and +44d39'02" (J2000.0). The object is varying between mag 15.3B and <17.5B, with a typical dwarf nova signature. Antipin reports 2 types of outbursts : long lasting ones with a duration of 15 days, and short lasting ones - about 6 days. Apparently, the star spends little time in quiescence and outbursts follow one after another almost immediately. Antipin points to a remarkable fact, in his discovery paper (IBVS 4673) : the color of the object is not representative for an UG-type of variable (color index 0.7 in USNO A2.0). Needless to say this object deserves more attention and further follow-up during its present outburst ! Best regards, Tonny Vanmunster CBA Belgium Observatory
