XTE J1118+480 = X-RAY NOVA IN URSA MAJOR We have submitted the following report to IAUC: Regards, Makoto Uemura, Taichi Kato, Hitoshi Yamaoka --- XTE J1118+480 = X-RAY NOVA IN URSA MAJOR M. Uemura and T. Kato, Kyoto University; H. Yamaoka, Kyushu University, on behalf of the VSNET collaboration team, report the detection of the probable optical counterpart (unfiltered CCD magnitude 12.92) of XTE J1118+480 (cf. IAUC 7389) on Mar 30.726 UT, using a 0.25-m telescope at Kyoto University. The position of this object (measured by Yamaoka with GSC-ACT stars) is R.A. = 11h18m10s.79, Decl. = +48o02'11".2 (equinox 2000.0, the accuracy is better than 1"), which is well within the error radius of ASM position (IAUC 7389). D. Buczynski (Condor Brow Observatory, UK) cofirmed the object at unfiltered CCD magnitude 12.91 on Mar 30.863 UT. Yamaoka further notes that within 1" of this position there is USNO_A1.0 1350.08089912 = USNO_A2.0 1350.07924726 (cataloged rmag 18.8) and no other object can be seen on DSS-2 images within 10", which suggest that this USNO star is possibly the quiescent counterpart of XTE J1118+480. Further visual estimate: Mar. 30.867, 12.5 (O. Trondal, Oslo, Norway).
