[vsnet-alert 3876] Re: QY Per rare outburst

Patrick,

You are absolutely correct about my mistake in converting to UT. It must
have been my computer! The observations should have read-

QY Per 991228.1458 13.5 SXN active!
QY Per 991228.1660 13.6 SXN active!

For that I humbly apologize.

As for the rest- I would have preferred to keep this discussion between you
and me. That's why I didn't post a flame out to vsnet. Instead, I emailed
you personally. Since you've let the cat out of the bag...

Even though your daily observations are nearly entirely undocumented, I
believe it is well documented how many times you have horned in and claimed
credit for outbursts detected by other observers long after the fact.
Usually, due to some Email problem. Apparently, you've gone to that well too
often and now it is your computer. If anyone cares to look in the archives,
as I have, they will even find times that you have posted a prior
observation of an outburst made by another observer that proved to be
erroneous! Oops, how do you explain that?

I have no idea what stars are in your program, nor do I care. As far as I
can tell, you have no program other than to sit cloistered (another word you
might look up) in the warmth of your home or office monitoring the efforts
of observers like me, who are out freezing their butts off to make a
contribution to science in their own humble way.

For you to criticize or question the integrity of an obviously superior
observer and person like Gary Poyner is not only unnecessary, but shows a
distinct lack of class. Again, this was to be private, but your ego wouldn't
allow it.
