[vsnet-alert 3782] SN 1999gh in NGC 2986

Dear SN watchers,

  Japanese amateur Kesao Takamizawa has discovered a bright suprenova.
It is his third SN (including independent one).  Congratirations,
Takamizawa-san! 

  According to IAUC 7328, the discovery was made on Dec. 3.806 UT when
SN 1999gh was m_pg = 14.6.  The position of SN, provided by the
confirmer (R. and Y. Kushida, Dec. 5.819 image when SN was mag 14.8)
is: R.A. = 9h44m20s.2, Decl. = -21o16'25".0, which is about 52" east
and 16" north of the core ot the E2 galaxy NGC 2986.  There are some
field stars around this galaxy, so the observer should be care.

  The spectroscopy of this SN was done by Keck-II, which reveals that
it is of type Ia near the maximum light.  Both the spectrum and the
apparent magnitude (from v_r, the maximum of typical SN Ia on this
distance is 14.0) indicate that it would be somewhat subluminous one.
The followup magnitude estimates is urged for this event, which seems
the link of the typical and peculiar SNeIa.
