CASV452 991005.305 182:C Scp CASV452 991006.305 180:C Scp CASV452 991008.304 162C Scp Sequence: USNO-A2.0 (red magnitudes) Instrument: IRO (0.5-m RCT + AP-8) The mag 18 observations are of the quiescence candidate on the DWS97 chart. The outbursting object is very close to or at the position of this candidate. According to G.A. Richter an outburst of V452 Cas = S10453 is recorded on Sonneberg plates: faint on 1967 Oct. 28, and bright from Nov. 3 to 8 (MVS 5, Heft 4, 69-72 (1969)). Is the current outburst the second one ever recorded? A few mag 15-16 observations were reported to VSNet and AAVSO, but they may have been of the close SE companion, which is marked on the DS93 chart and labeled '1582' on the VSNet chart. Data from USNO-A2.0 for this star: 005218.277 +535143.95 (2000.0) 14.7 16.8 If most or all outbursts of V452 Cas reach only mag 16 and not mag 14 as given in the GCVS then it is no wonder that so few brightenings have been recorded despite the reasonable good coverage by visual observers.
