Yes, point taken.  Unfortunately the AAVSO preliminary charts that I tried
to download seem to be corrupted, anyway they crash my (now rather
primitive) copy of Netscape.  We are eagerly awaiting the promised charts
CD-Rom on this side of the pond!  I will try to take a look at the URL you
mention.  

The GSC comparison was taken from Megastar which I use to draw my charts,
the particular star used here was GSC 3062:173 about 3.5mins NW of the
variable.  When observed last night V844 was approximately equal to this
star so if we have a better mag, we can adjust the figure.

Most of the UK and Europe is smothered by cloud (has been for weeks) with
only occasional breaks one of which I was lucky enough to grab last night. 
I do hope someone in the States or maybe Japan has been able to confirm the
outburst.
