(fwd) A blue variable object Date: Wed, 04 Aug 1999 09:34:36 +0200 From: Berto Monard <Lagmonar@csir.co.za> Subject: A blue variable object Hi, I hope someone can help me out identifying the true nature of a blue variable object in the Southern sky. Astrometrically it coincides with USNO-A2.0 0375-20129883 at (2000) 14 08 34.9 -47 57 16 It is not listed in any of the Blue/UV/X catalogues accessible via 'Vizier' (Rosat, Einstein, IUE etc...) My visual observations so far: June-July 1999: Mag = 12.8 on several occasions 31 July 1999: Mag = 13.8 3 Aug 1999: Mag = 13.9 The R/B magnitudes of this object in the USNO catalogues show it to be the bluest object in that part of the sky. The DSS images show it to be bright in DSS gen 1 and faint in DSS gen 2. With regard to the latter, a blue object is usually shown fainter in the Southern DSS gen2 but it can be seen that the object is shown much fainter than would be expected if it were not variable... Any help would be much appreciated to unmask this interesting object of possibly a CV (VY Scl?) or LBV nature, hopefully not a blue eclipser. Yes, I know, I am nosing around in the sky...
