cf. [vsnet-chat 2067] Host galaxy of SN1999cz http://vsnet.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/vsnet/Mail/vsnet-chat/msg02067.html cf. [vsnet-obs 21463] SN1999cz early photometry from IAUC 7214 http://vsnet.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/vsnet/Mail/obs21000/msg00463.html Dear SN watchers, The Perth Automated Supernova Search team has discovered their second supernova in this year. This supernova, 1999cz, is well neibourhood from us. IAUC 7214 tells that the discovery was made on June 23.4 (two weeks ago), when the new star was mag about 16. Followup astrometry, done on July 1.493 when the SN was mag 16.5, provides the location as; R.A. = 13h19m48s.53, Decl. = -27o24'04".5 (2000.0). The host galaxy NGC 5078 is quite large edge-on Sa galaxy with dust-lane like M 104, then the presice location of core is not easily determined. The offset from the RC3 location of the host is about 27"N and 25"W, which is apparently in the bulge region or overlying disk. NGC 5078 has an apparent companion SBa galaxy IC 879 (about 3'SW from NGC 5078). Also, about 30' north from them, NGC 5061 is there which had produced SN Ia 1996X. These galaxies has roughly same recession velocities, and SN 1996X was about mag 13.2 on its maximum. SN 1999cz can be an SN II on its plateau phase. Needless to say, the spectroscopy (not yet done) is urged for type determination. Sincerely Yours, Hitoshi Yamaoka, Kyushu Univ., Japan yamaoka@rc.kyushu-u.ac.jp
