About the suspected SN in Abell 262, I intend to give some basic
information.
The cluster Abell 262 has z = 0.0161, from which the normal SNeIa at
this distance would be expected to be about 15.7 mag at their maximum
light. Reported magnitude was 2 mag brighter than this.
The center of the cluster is 1h52m.8, +36o08' (2000.0, Abell et al.
1988). The location of the new star is about 24' west and 2' north
from the cluster center. In the neibour of the reported position,
there is a (spiral?) galaxy UGC 1319 = PGC 6865 = IRAS 01485+3549.
From its core, the reported star is at an offset of 190" west and 124"
north.
Sincerely Yours,
