Dear all, SN 1998an, which had apparently shown a great brightening (noted on [vsnet-alert 1669] and isn_chat on Apr. 13), is now at a normal brightness as it is SN Ia at the distance estimated from its recession velocity. On Apr 15.5UT, Dr. Ayani, Bisei Astronomical Observatory, Japan, has obtained the spectrum of SN 1998an and it shows that this SN is of type Ia around maximum. This result had submitted to IAUC.
