report:
"The BeppoSAX Gamma Ray Burst Monitor was triggered on Mar. 26.888125 U.T.
coincident with BATSE trigger 6660. A quick look analysis shows a single
peak gamma-ray burst lasting about 5s and with a peak flux of 500 cts sE-1
in the range 40-700 keV. The gamma-ray burst was also detected by the
unit 1 of the Wide Field Cameras (WFC1) with a peak flux of about 4 Crab
in the range 2-26 keV. The position from a quick look analysis is R.A. =
08h36m26s, Decl. = -18o53'.0 (equinox 2000.0). The accuracy of the
satellite attitude was not optimum, we adopt a error radius of 8'. Due to
sun constraints, the GRB location cannot be presently observed by BeppoSAX
Narrow Field Instruments."

##### mail-1 ################################################

Date: Fri, 27 Mar 1998 03:58:42 +0000 (GMT)

The BeppoSAX GRBM was triggered at 21:18:54 UT of March 26 by a GRB
(GB980326, also
BATSE trigger 6660).
The event was detected by one of the WFC ((WFC1), with preliminary
position:
RA(2000)=129.15
Dec(2000)=-18.89
The error radius at this stage is 10'.

BeppoSAX follow up will NOT be carried out due to visibility constraints
for the NFI.

Note on the error radius: the GRB was detected when the satellite was in a
not optimal attitude configuration. We were able to check the aspect
solution by measuring the positions of Cyg X-1 and Cyg X-3 in the other
WFC (n.2). They agree with the nominal positions within 5'. At this stage
of the analysis we estimate a total (sistematic+ statistical) error of
about 10'.
