Hi all,
Here are two observations, confirming Berto Monard's outburst detection of
TU Crt.
1998 Mar 24.908 UT, 12.8 (P. Schmeer, visual observation, 0.20-m SCT)
Mar 24.930 UT, 13.1 (T. Vanmunster, unfilt. CCD obs., 0.25-m SCT + ST-7);
TU Crt still is a relatively unknown CV. There's a paper by Koen & O'Donoghue
(1995, ApJS 101, 347), who derived a probable period of 0.0844 days for the
system.
Clearly, this could be an UGSU type dwarf nova.
TU Crt was originally called J05.23 - an object showing a typical CV spectrum
(Maza et al. 1992, PASP 104, 1060). It was found in outburst on archival
plates by
Wenzel (1993, IBVS 3829) - one distinct outburst on Sonneberg plates - and by
Hazen (1993, IBVS 3888) - who detected a number of outbursts on Harvard College
Observatory plates.
Congratulations to Berto on this important finding !
Tonny Vanmunster,
