Dear vsnet-alert subscribers, According to IAUC 6790, M. Aoki (Toyama, Japan) discoverd a rather bright supernova in NGC 5012, which is named 1997eg. The brightness of this SN on discovery was reported as mag 15.6. It is discovered on Dec. 4.85 UT, but has not reported the following spectroscopic observation and not classified its type. It is located at R.A. = 13h11m36.73s, Dec. = +22o55'29".4 (equinox 2000.0), which is 4".1 W and 33".1 N of the center of the host galaxy. On about 5" east of SN, there is 13.9 mag star. The photometric observations has not also been reported. The magnitude estimates or the photometries are greatly encourged for the determination of the nature of this SN. Regards, Hitoshi Yamaoka, Kyushu Univ., Japan.
