Possible superoutburst of CI UMa According to AAVSO News Flash No. 228, the SU UMa-type dwarf nova CI UMa may be in superoutburst. 1997 Nov. 18.9917 14.1 (J. Bortle, from AAVSO News Flash 228) 19.004 14.0 (J. Bortle, from AAVSO News Flash 228) 20.0111 14.4 (J. Bortle, from AAVSO News Flash 228) The latest superoutburst of CI UMa occurred in 1997 July - August, when the system reached mv=14.0 (Pietz and Hanson). If the present outburst is confirmed as another superoutburst, it will provide a strong support to the short-supercycle nature of this dwarf nova, which has been claimed by Nogami and Kato 1997, PASJ 49, 109). The suggested short supercycle length (110-140 d) is rather unusual for this short-period (Psh=0.0625 d) system, making CI UMa one of the unique SU UMa-type dwarf novae. Follow-up observations are highly encouraged. Regards, Taichi Kato
