Rare outburst of V1028 Cyg J. Pietz reports in vsnet-obs 8535 (http://vsnet.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/vsnet/Mail/vsnet-obs/msg08535.html) that the SU UMa-type dwarf nova V1028 Cyg may be undergoing one of its rare outbursts. This observation has been confirmed by A. Dill (http://vsnet.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/vsnet/Mail/vsnet-obs/msg08537.html). 1997 Nov. 16.86 13.4:: (J. Pietz) Nov. 17.067 13.1 (A. Gill) The latest outburst of V1028 Cyg was observed on 1997 May 17 (Hanson), which was a short, faint outburst (for a reference, see http://vsnet.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/vsnet/DNe/v1028cyg9705.html). On the occasion of 1995 July - August outburst, an extensive study by the Ouda team revealed the existence of superhumps (Baba et al. 1997; preprint available at http://ftp.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/pub/vsnet/preprints/V1028_Cyg), which confirmed the SU UMa-type nature of this object. This superoutburst was prominent in that it was followed by a well-observed rebrightening, and that the increase of the superhump period (Psh) during the superoutburst was confirmed for the first time (Baba et al. 1997). The next superoutburst occurred in 1996 August (for a reference, see http://vsnet.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/vsnet/DNe/v1028cyg9608.html). This superoutburst was also prominent in that it was preceded by a remarkable precursor short outburst, and was again followed by a post- superoutburst rebrightening. Time-resolved CCD observations during the present outburst are strongly encouraged to see whether above findings are universal to every superoutburst of V1028 Cyg. Wishing for clear skies!
