PALOUS, Theodor PRIBULLA, Nikolai SAMUS, Zdenek STUCHLIK, Martin SOLC
and members of the Scientific Organizing Committee indicated with asterisks.

 MEETING SITE:

Brno lies just one hundred kilometers north from Vienna. Common
history led to many resemblances in architecture of both cities. In
the past decades, Brno has been encircled by concrete settlements, and
has some 0.4 million inhabitants now. Its center, however, has been
left almost intact, and on Sundays it is quiet and pleasant. Visit the
Kapucin monastery with the new sundials in the court, e.g.

Thanks to the compactness of the center, walking is sufficient to get
almost anywhere there. Dense network of public transport (vital parts
work overnight) enables to reach even the most distant parts of Brno
within half an hour.

All meeting events will be held at the Nicolas Copernicus Observatory
and Planetarium. To our observatory, take the tram number 4 going left
from the station, i.e., to the Masarykova ctvrt (Masaryk's quarter).
The line No. 4 ends in a saddle by St. Augustin church, erected as the
whole quarter at the twenties. You will notice our observatory in
a park on Kravi hora (Cow hill, small from that direction) right
(east) from the church.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit interesting
monuments in Brno (Spilberk castle, villa Tugendhat) and the
observatory of Masaryk's University situated on Cow hill as well.

 WEATHER CONDITION:

Long-year average temperature is 3.5 Celsius degree in time of our
conferences. Maximal measured temperature was 19.8 Celsius degree and
minimal one -9.1 Celsius degree. There may be snow or permanent, tiny rain
(usually 40 mm rainfall during November).

 LANGUAGE, PAPERS:

English is working language during both conferences. Czech or Slovak
are admitted working languages just during the first (stellar) conference,
but always with English summaries, slides, transparents, abstracts.

Papers: The time allocated for an invited review paper is about
40 minutes, while the time allowed for oral presentation of
a contributed paper on your results is about 15 minutes (both times
including 3-minutes discussion). We recommend presentation of your
contributions on poster displays. All read papers and chosen posters will
be published in the conference proceedings.

If you are interested in presenting paper(s) and did not send us your
abstract(s) please do it so that they will arrive till October 25, 1997.
Abstract(s) received after this deadline will not be included in the
booklet of abstracts.

 MEALS:

Meals will be provided in the surroundings of our observatory
in restaurant Tivoli (or dining hall of Faculty of Law) for approximately
CZK 80 (or CZK 40). We are going to prepare a festive dinner (CZK 100).
Meals tickets will be available at N. Copernicus Observatory during
conference registration. (1 USD means approximately 35 CZK.) (over) d

 REGISTRATION:

If you are going to attend the conference(s) you should complete (if you
have not done it already) the enclosed registration form.

The full conference registration fee covers the following:

1) Conference on stellar astronomy
     - registration materials
     - conference Proceedings

registration fee CZK 80 but without conference proceedings.

 TRAVEL INFORMATION:

The best way to reach Brno is by railway. The only station used by
international trains is the main one, lying just on the southern
margin of the city center (on the Ring around the former city wall).

Brno has an international airport but it is used mainly during
international fairs. Regular air connection exits only to Zurich,
Switzerland. New regular lines can emerge this year.

The cities closest to Brno which have large international airports are
Vienna and Prague. Brno is about 1.5 (2) hours from Vienna and about
2.5 (3.5) hours from Prague via car/bus (train).

By car?

If you have to arrive by car, then the best access is from Vienna, right
from its Brunner Strasse (Brno street) to our Videnska (Vienna street)
and straight on: through street Krizova, around the Mendel's square, and
through Uvoz (= deeply cut road) up till the Udolni (= valley) street.
This is the street with the tram line (the first one crossing Uvoz) number
4, going left to our observatory.

A slight complication on the Vienna street is the new highway knot. North
from the knot, the street (with its tram line) proceeds straight north,
whereas the main road goes slightly right and down --- you have to keep left
lane and proceed left (straight, in fact) below the bridge.

From the highways there are four exits around Brno. One is east and one
west from the city, and two are close together at the southern part of the
city. The better one is the western of these southern exits, namely the
crossing with Vienna street.

Arriving from east (Prostejov) or west (Praha), follow the highway D1 to the
crossing marked with "Wien" --- but on the crossing, follow the direction
of Brno-center (Brno-mesto).

Arriving from southern highway (D2, from Slovakia), turn to Praha (at the
eastern of the two southern exits) and then leave the highway and the next
exit (at Vienna street).

If you miss the crossing of highways D2 and D1 (i.e., you proceed on D2
northward to Brno), you can go straight on, along the Ring west and north
around the inner city. You have to leave Ring some 50 m before Udolni
street, between the (old, brick) "Red church" and (new) "White house" (you
will notice them), and reach Udolni through the narrow Maresova street.
The narrow beginning of Udolni street at the Ring (called Husova street
there), is reserved to trolleybus in direction from the city, and also
the tram access from the broad Jostova alley is reserved for public
transport. The Udolni street with the tram goes till the the saddle below
our observatory.

You can park your car in that saddle. There is also a road to us around
the park, starting from the Udolni street just below its top. The road
ends by our observatory, and some ten cars can stay there.

Note: 1 If you want use Czech highway you must buy a stamp (CZK 400).
2 There will be a map of a part of Brno on WWW
           http://klubovna.sci.muni.cz

 LODGING INFORMATION:

The conference participants will be accommodated at the nearby
Hotel Kozak, Horova 30, Brno, where the price per one night in
a double-room including breakfast is CZK 690 (the whole room).
Single rooms are not available in this hotel. The hotel is situated
within walking distance from the conference room (25 minutes walk,
or 15 min approaching a bit by tram).

The Local Organizing Committee can offer to students attending our
conference(s) a hostel at Videnska street 106 (40 minutes by tram
from the observatory) instead, where the price per one night is CZK 92.

 TOUR OF BRNO:

The Local Organizing Committee has arranged an optional tour
of the city and its two well known sites - villa Tugendhat of famous
architect Fuchs (recent splitting of Czechoslovakia was arranged there)
and the castle Spilberk known as "prison of nations".

The price of bus circular tour is CZK 60 (USD 2)

If you are interested in this tour, please, fill the corresponding line in
the registration form or (if you have already sent it to us) send us only a
message (mention people that will accompany you).
