According to IAUC No. 6713, the MACHO team has discovered an apparent
nova in the SMC from 1996 images.
00h 54m 43s.04 (J2000.0)
-72o 32' 20".8
No magnitude information. The nova peaked in brightness around 1996
June 8. Is the nova still visibile, or any magnitude estimates from old
photographs? In using the VSNET reporting format (vsnet-obs), use the
designation SMCnova1996.
