- Sender: owner-vsnet-alert@kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp
Visual magnitude estimates by P. Schmeer, Bischmisheim, Germany:
BZ URSAE MAJORIS (UGSU:)
July 15.901 UT, (13.0 ; 16.892, 12.0:; 17.910, 11.9:; 17.946, 11.9:
Sequence: AAVSO
Instrument: 203-mm SCT
No optimal sky conditions on July 16 and 17 (moonlight + slight haze/clouds)
This might be the long awaited supermaximum. The most recently recorded
(apparent) superoutburst was detected by me on 1990 July 9.94 UT at
mv= 12.2: (cf. IAUC 5051).
The last (normal) outburst of BZ UMa was detected by Gene Hanson on
1997 Jan. 9.194 UT at mv= 14.4: (6 months = 1 mean cycle length ago).
In the following hours its brightness rose by another 3 magnitudes.
Confirmation of the current suspected outburst is urgently required!
(and of course high-speed photometry in case of a superoutburst)
Regards,
Patrick
