V-band CCD observation at Ouda Station (Kyoto University) suggests
the SU UMa-type dwarf nova HS Vir may be undergoing a low state.
VIRHS 970629.465 17.76V Oud
This magnitude is nearly one or two magnitude fainter than the nominal
quiescence, making it the faintest during our three-year's series.
HS Vir is known as a low-amplitude, frequently outbursting SU UMa-type
dwarf nova (Kato et al., in preparation). Some authors suggest the
similarity to the so-called ER UMa stars, or qualify it as a member filling
the gap between ER UMa stars and more usual SU UMa stars.
The current episode, however, seems to suggest the star is not a simple
relative to ER UMa stars. Follow-up observations are strongly encouraged.
