[vsnet-alert 710] SN1997X in NGC 4691

[Taichi Kato <tkato>]

  IAUC No. 6552 tells the discovery of a bright supernova in NGC 4691
by Masakatsu Aoki on Feb. 1.76 UT at unfiltered CCD magnitude 13.6.
The object is located at:

  12h 48m 14s.28  (J2000.0, measured by Kushida)
  -03o 19' 58".5

  8".6E, 1".3N of the galaxy center

  N. B. Suntzeff reports the supernova is of type Ic shortly after its
maximum.

  Congratulations to M. Aoki on his fifth supernova discovery!  Follow-up
observations are strongly encouraged.
