ALEXIS has detected a transient in Telescope 1B (170 Angstroms, 72eV) at: RA= (23 54 36.53) [23 54 48.24] DEC=(-37 49 13.4) [-37 39 25.2] (Current Epoch) [Epoch 2000] Error circle radius = 0.5 degrees (~90% confidence) There was no evidence of the object in the co-aligned telescope 1A (130 Angstroms, 93 eV). The outburst appeared to to be in 2 flaring episodes, one at 10 UT 26 Dec, 1995, and the other starting at 4 UT 27 Dec, 1995 and continuing to 7 UT 27 Dec, 1995 when the data was downloaded from the satellite. The second flaring episode was much brighter than the first. The next data down from the satellite will be at 15:14 UT 27 Dec with point source information available about 2 hours later. Simbad only show 13 sources within the error box with no good candidates for optical counterparts. Groundbased observations made at this time will aid in the identification of the optical counterpart.
