Optical spectra (range 410-510 nm, resolution 0.2 nm) of the possible nova
in Cas reported by M. Yamamoto were taken at Asiago Observatory on August
26.96 U.T. The spectra show blue continuum and prominent emission lines of
H I, Fe II, etc. We, therefore, confirm that this object is a classical
nova. The spectra, however, are rather peculiar, because the emission lines
are narrow (FWHM of H-beta is about 0.5 nm) and the blue-shifts of the
P Cyg type absorption components are only 400 km/s or less.
