[vsnet-alert 126] AL Com "dips"

The first such accumlation of light curves showing "dips"
I believe, was Ricther 1992 ASP conf series Vol 29, p12.
Here he present evidence for some "dips" in a few light curves of
TOADs, and some weaker evidence for possible "dips" in other
TOADs. This phenomena appears to ONLY occur in TOADs, but not
in all of them and NOT all the time.

Also, the term "dip" is not really correct as both Osaki (1989 PASJ 41, 1005
and others and Howell et al. 1995 ApJ 439, 337) have shown that the
likely cause is a normal outburst which occurs right after the superoutburst.
These normal outbursts are usually non-existant or quite
rare in the TOAds, but the state of agitation of the disk directly
after such a superoutburst "allows" their occurance.

These post-outburst brightenings have been seen in the following stars:
WZ Sge, AL Com, VY Aqr, UZ Boo and DV Dra.

Searchs for superhumps during these short post-outburst rises would
be very interesting.
Cheers,
Steve
