            Norwegian Astronomical Society - Variable Star Section

                    +++++  OUTBURST OF U GEMINORUM +++++

    The following observations by members of NAS.VSS independently confirm
    that U Geminorum has started its long awaited outburst:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    The last observation indicates that U Gem has entered a full maximum.

    Comparison stars (identifications from Burnham's Celestial Handbook,
    Vol. II, p. 931; magnitudes by AAVSO): A = 8.5; B = 9.0; C = 9.3;
    G = 11.9; H = 12.3; K = 12.6; L = 13.3; M = 13.8. Class (Cl.) is the
    estimated quality of observation: 1 = good, 2 = fair, 3 = poor.
    Observers were Ornulf Midtskogen (Tranby, Norway), Bjorn H. Granslo
    (observed from Aarnes, Norway), and Haakon Dahle (Oslo, Norway).

    The previous eruption of U Gem occured during the last days of August
    and the first days of September last year.

                                           Yours sincerely,
