[vsnet-outburst 4967] BZ UMa strong humps on Dec. 25

BZ UMa strong humps on Dec. 25

Dear Colleagues,

We have been nightly observing BZ UMa since the detection of the recent
outburst. Although the object has faded from the outburst, strong and
highly coherent variations appeared on Dec. 25 (observation by Okayama
U. of Sci. team, led by Tanabe-san). The humps had amplitudes of
0.4-0.5 mag. The best-determined period is 0.0657(7) d, which is slightly
shorter than the orbital period. The mean profile is posted at:

   http://vsnet.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/pub/vsnet/DNe/BZ_UMa/bzph1.gif

The profile rather resembles those of superhumps. These humps may be
related to negative superhumps (superhumps have periods slightly shorter
than the orbital period). On the next night, the signal appearently
became weaker. Further analysis is in progress.
