Subject: [Fwd: VW Hyi]
I'm comet hunting using a CCD camera and 100mm telephoto lens these
days. Tonight I came across an outburst of VW Hyi, a dwarf nova (U Gem,
subclass SU UMa) at mag 9.1 (unfiltered). I believe this is a rarther
larger outburst for this star, certainly brighter than I have ever seen
it over the last couple of years (and I try to image the whole sky south
of dec -50 every week). I last imaged this star five days ago when it
was fainter than 13.0. To summarize:
2002 May 27.39 < 13.0
2002 Jun 02.37 9.1
Cheers,
