Norwegian Astronomical Society - Variable Star Section Morning observations from 2002 January 29 UT Observer: Bjorn H. Granslo (GRL). Location: Fjellhamar, Norway. Instruments: 20.3-cm SCT (C203), 7x50 binoculars (B7x50). Magnitude references: V-magnitudes from Hipparcos and Tycho catalogues, visual by BAA.VSS. Observations: Visual, Pogson step estimates. Condititions: Clear to partly cloudy; Full Moon; windy. Object YYYYMMDD(UT) Mag Obs Instrument Ref. Comparison stars (V-magnitudes from Tycho-1 catalogue): D = 8.75 (HIP 86023 = TYC 6235-2867), E = 8.98 (TYC 6248-0642). Despite moonlight, astronomical twilight and an altitude of 7 degrees I was able to obtain fairly accurate brightness estimates. The telescopic limiting magnitude was close to 10.0 (TYC 6248-1077, located ~75" from nova, was faintly visible). Yours sincerely, Bjorn H. Granslo
