Why don't you have a web page with all the list with radio buttons next to
them. Then we can simply check off which list we wish to belong to?

I would also like to know which lists I am subscribed to. It would also be
useful to be able to get a listing of all VSNET mailing lists. Some are
not mentioned on the VSNET website.

I would also prefer -not- to be automatically subscribed to new mailing
lists.

It would be better if the existence of new mailing lists was announced
with a single message (to vsnet? vsnet-announce?), containing a
description of the new list(s) and subscribing instructions. Then VSNET
readers can choose if they want to receive the new mailing list or not.

Automatic subscription, followed by a flood of unexpected messages from a
new list, is dangerously similar to spamming. Which is why automatic
subscription annoys many readers and reduces the value of VSNET.

Please give us the choice in future.
