Subject: New SNe Images
In between clouds and despite the moon, I managed to get images last
evening for the following new SNe, with tested links as follows:
http://pages.prodigy.net/fmewalt/.wi_UGC-11955-SN2000dw-2.jpg

COMMENTS:
For SN2000dx, this image should confirm that the SN is brighter and in
the MAG 15 range. As DR Yamaoka pointed out, it is difficult with the
software tools I have to get a really accurate measurement of
magnitude with the SN imbedded in a relatively bright spiral arm.
The problem is worse with SN2000dw and SN2000ej. These SNe are so
close to the nucleus, it takes considerable processing
(Lucy-Richardson and other filtering techniques) to be able to get rid
of both the high sky background as well as confirm that a stellar
object is in the reported position for the SN in the raw image.
Magnitude estimation for these two SNe is by visual comparison with
foreground stars closest to the same apparent size and brightness.
Observation Times for DR Yamaoka:
SN2000ej - 22:50:54 UT 12 NOV 2000
SN2000dx - 02:14:35 UT 13 NOV 2000
SN2000dw - 01:49:49 UT 13 NOV 2000
I also did some graphics "sleight of hand" for the two images I took
with the ST7E last week but reported that I was unable to resolve the
SNe. By resizing the raw images and using the same filter techniques
mentioned above, a possible object was then apparent in both. I am not
going to load either of these on my homepages, but I have attached both
of them here for you. You can use them at your discretion. I sure
have a lot of man hours wrapped up in todays package....
Maybe the skies will clear for a little while by the weekend and then
the mon will be lower and later to rise.
Best Regards;
Fred E.
