That's because AAVSO charts normally don't include minor planets.

According to GUIDE7.0 minor planet (7) Iris (mag 10.4) is currently about 15'
west of AK Cnc.
Before announcing any suspected novae (or supernovae) please check for minor
planets - especially near the ecliptic.
