Those are interesting data!
Given a B-V of around 0.7 for V4641 Sgr, the present observations (about 13.5V) are very much in agreement with those of the observing records.
Possibly the bright magnitudes observed in June 1978 might present snapshots of a previous cataclysmic event, more or (probably) less violent as the one witnessed during the XR flares of Sep 1999.
