Re: [vsnet-obs 21879] MAYDAY MAYDAY, drowning in e-mails

Dear Alfons,

Again sorry for the moment for vsnet-mira subscribers. I set up a system
announcing recently neglected long-period variables (and suspects) just
10 days ago. Since the changing time-scale of these variables are longer
than those of CVs, the relaxation of these "request for observation" and
actul reports is not yet reached. I expect within a few days from now,
the mixing with observations will proceed, and subscribers will receive
adequate information just in need of observations.

Regarding Mira recent, most of stars are more sparsely monitored than
it may look, and the effective time between recent issues for a given star
is 5 days, very close to what is expected for weekly summaries. The simple
difference between weekly summaries and the present form is whether messages
are issued on a special day of the week or more distributed among days.
The latter is apparently more preferable both in terms of the system
load, and the timeliness of messages. Of course, there are several stars
more frequently observed, but they are a small minority. From the frequency
of Mira recent issues, observers can judge which star is presently
well-covered and which stars are not (stars with distinct recent gaps are
moved to the "observation needed" category).

Regards,
Taichi Kato
