LY Hya [UG:, 17.4v - 18.4v]

Steve Howell, Planetary Science Institute, Arizona reports a possible
outburst of LY Hya, a suspected UG star, while observing at Mauna Kea,
Hawai : "I am at Mauna Kea doing infrared spectra of CV's, and one 
we are doing is a suspected SU UMa star, that is quite bright. It is
1329-294, LY Hya, and has a V mag of 14.4. The orbital period is below 
the gap so it should be an SU UMa type dwarf nova."

LY Hya is located at : R.A. = 13h31m53.93s, decl.= -29d40'59.9"
(J2000.0).

The editor has compared this observation with a VSNET chart provided
by Taichi Kato, Kyoto University, Japan (CCD V-image, dated 1996, Jan.
12). The object clearly was below the detection limit (i.e. V < 17.3).
Hence, chances are high that LY Hya currently is undergoing a rare
outburst. 

According to Steve Howell, no outburst observations are yet known.

1994 (Still et al.).

We have prepared a finder chart and sequence for LY Hya, which are
available through the Cataclysmic Variables Home Page. The object
also has been added to the Cataclysmic Variables Alert Programme CVAP.
