PU Per [UG, 14.7p - 20:p]
=========================
M. Iida, Nagano, Japan reports (through VSNET) an outburst of this
most interesting UG-type dwarf nova, which is on the Belgian Cata-
clysmic Variables Alert Programme CVAP. The event has been confirmed
by Taichi Kato (Ouda Team), Kyoto University, Japan. Available obser-
vations :
1995 Oct 13.549 UT, 17.6 (M. Iida, 0.20-m refl. + CCD ST-6 unfiltered);
Taichi Kato added following comments on October 14th (VSNET) : "We have
just confirmed the reported outburst of PU Per. By comparing V-band
images with the VSNET chart, we have obtained a rough magnitude estimate
of V=15.5. The actual position of PU Per is slightly north to the marked
position in Downes & Shara (1993) chart and VSNET chart. The position
agrees well with that in Bruch et al. (1987) : R.A. = 02h39m11s.705
Decl. = +35o28'03".10 (B1950.0)."
No historical outbursts of this object are listed in the "Outburst
Activity Data on Selected Cataclysmic Variables". The fact that PU Per is
included in Steve Howell's list of possible TOADs, even raises the impor-
tance of the present outburst.
We identified one interesting publication in which PU Per is referenced :
Romano G., Minello S., "Observations of three U Geminorum stars", IBVS
1140, 1-3, 1976.
Outburst Activity Data on Selected Cataclysmic Variables
========================================================
Our database with "Outburst Activity Data on Selected Cataclysmic
Variables" has been updated to contain information as recent as
September 1995. It now includes over 270 cataclysmic variables,
for which nearly 1000 outburst measurements are listed. In addition,
we have prepared an HTML version of the database, making it possible
to consult it online, using popular WWW-browsers like Mosaic or
Netscape ! The Postscript version of the first edition of the data-
base remains accessible as well. Here are some URL's on which the
database can be found :
http://vsnet.psi.edu/sbhgen.html (home page of Steve Howell) :
- contains the Postscript version of the first edition of the
database
- a paper describing some interesting background information on
the creation process of the database (Postscript too).
http://vsnet.vub.ac.be/STER/CV/head.html (home page of the Brussels
Free University - Astronomy Group) :
- contains an HTML version of the newest edition of the database
- a mirror page to Steve Howell's home page
