Sequence Notes re Q Cygni = Nova Cygni 1876
Lasse Jensen, Denmark recently commented via VSNET that
results for Q Cygni (=Nova Cygni 1876) appeared to be
inconsistent and this might be due to different sequences
in use.
The differences between the sequence issued by the AAVSO and
The Astronomer (TA) are very substantial:
TA Label AAVSO Label TA mag AAVSO Mag Comment
1 94 10.30 9.4 B-V=+0.49
2 110 12.54 11.0 B-V=+0.51
3 119 13.35 11.9 B-V=+0.64
4 134 14.03 13.4 B-V=+0.95
5 not used 14.38 ---- B-V=+0.74
6 not used 14.91 ---- B-V=+1.19
7 138 15.08 13.8 B-V=+0.28
8 not used 15.53 ---- B-V=+1.75 NW of var
The TA sequence reference 871211 is based on Perem.Zvezdy (1983)
Vol 21 p807 S.Yu.Shugarov. They are based on V and B measures.
The author found that Q Cygni had a range of V=14.66-15.30 based
on 50 measures.
My copy of the AAVSO (f) preliminary chart does not appear
to quote the source of their sequence.
This is a very active nova at minimum and within the range of
large amateur telescopes. We recommend close monitoring and
we can send a copy of our chart to anyone who e-mails their
postal address to the undersigned.
