Date: Wed, 27 Dec 2000 19:31:22 +0000 (GMT) From: Roger Pickard <rdp@star.ukc.ac.uk> Subject: [vsnet-chat 3891] Q1996/077 Dear Taichi, The Crayford Manor House Astronomical Society are custodians of the Hewitt Camera Archive, a collection of some 11,000 photographic plates taken between 1965 and 1990 using Schmidt Cameras, specially designed for artificial satellite work by Joseph Hewitt of the Royal Radar Establishment at Malvern, England. Back in 1997 members of the Society examined these plates on behalf of Guy Hurst (Editor of The Astronomer magazine) following a request by Guy as follows: Q1996/077 Professional astronomers have approached us for assistance with the spectrophotometric standard star BD +33 2642 which is located at: RA 15h51m59.86s DEC +32 56'54.8"(2000) V=10.81 On 1995 November 2 the star, not previously known to be variable, appeared to go into an eclipse lasting until Nov 3 or possibly beyond. It decreased by a factor of 3 in brightness. Does anyone have photographs or images taken on those dates or indeed on other dates which we could check for further variation? Regards, Guy Unfortunately, we only found the star on 12 plates taken between 1969 and 1987 when it was observed at about 10.4 on each plate (eye estimates using GSC 2575 539 and GSC 2575 1811 as comparisons). Best wishes, Roger Pickard Hon. Sec.
