Re: (fwd) E chart for V475 SCT required (fwd) Just for clarification: > Please do not use vsnet or VSOLJ charts when reporting to AAVSO if > possible. There is no official VSNET or VSOLJ charts for this nova (there doesn't even exist a VSOLJ chart). We recommend to use standard "V-magnitude" charts, especially one by Sebastian Otero using ASAS-3 data (already announced by himself) until a fainter CCD sequence becomes available. > Japanese estimates fainter than 12V are no doubt based on this faulty > chart which lists a 122 comp that is actually 117. The use of the JVSA charts is not recommended (except for brighter Hipparcos/Tycho magnitudes); these chart were only designed to issue initial domestic alerts, and have rarely been updated. It is a pity that Japanese observers don't care about a proper sequence [I have already communicated this in their own language, but their response is far from satisfactory], and continue relying on incorrect "local standard charts". These charts are delivered to JVSA observers by mail, and are likely producing inconsistency problems. Many similar examples (only meaningful for historical purposes, but are actually being used) are present on the JVSA official homepage. Regards, Taichi Kato
