The SAAO team has been following "bright" well-known Miras for many years long, and you will be able to find relevant references in MNRAS or in other journals. For fainter Miras (including northern ones), this is the area where many professional programs are being undertaken or planned with array detectors. A lot of notheran IRAS-selected Miras have been monitored years long, and I have been shown preliminary light curves. The brightest end, however, is usually outside of this type of survey observations. One of the practical advantages of infrared photometry is that this will not require very dark skies, and can be reasonably conducted under most severely light-polluted skies. Regards, Taichi Kato
