Re: [vsnet-chat 6493] Re: 93 comp star for RS Oph > I am surprised again: I have just sent an email congratulating AAVSO people > for this article on the VSOTM section. > I think it was the article that finally let me know more about NR's and > their classificaction.... > I don't know what else to say but....thank you!!! ;-)) The idea of mass-transfer burst theory in symbiotic recurrent novae was prevalent until the 1980's. This chronology reminds me of the mass-trasnfer burst model for SU UMa-type superoutbursts, which was fashionable around that time. There was already Mariko Kato's TNR modelling of RS Oph in 1991 (ApJ 369, 471), and this interpretaion has been refined and extended until now (there must have been an earlier suggestion of TNR for recurrent novae in general, but this work was probably first to demonstrate it quantitatively). I hope Hachisu-san would be able to provide an easy-to-read English introduction (just as VSOTM) to this theory somewhere on his webpage (or on VSNET), although I know there is one in Japanese... Regards, Taichi Kato
