[vsnet-chat 6389] Fw: Re: [vsnet-id 814] Re: ASAS 030439-8114.0 is not a DCEP star (John Greaves)

Okay then, I still haven't had a chance to check out a lot of
individual BY Dra stars to see what their other properties in general
are, but it looks like Brian has negated that based on 'first
principles'.

Meanwhile my brain has caught up with me a bit.

Think SARV.

SARV is a quasi-official term, promulgated (invented?) by John Percy,
and stands for Small Amplitude Red Variable.

Of the top of my head I'd say the "classic"/"type" example is W Boo,
it is at least probably the most studied and will result in
lightcurve containing papers by him et al if you do an ADS search.

Anyway, low amplitudes, mid range periods, red (W Boo is a 12 micron
IRAS source too), cleanish, fairly periodically regular, lightcurves,
if I remember rightly.

Da AAVSO has had a photometric campaign on these objects, more or
less under Percy's direction, for some time (dunno if still current),
so some aavso personage on the lists may be able to compare the asas3
object with them with an eye of familiarity.

Cheers

John
