Hi Stan and All, A rare event last night - it was clear here at Heathcote. We are still in drought with no rain - just lots of cloud! Some red binocular stars from last nights observations: RX Lep 6.2 declining U Mon 5.4 near maximum R Dor 5.8 rising R Car 4.4 rising near maximum S Car 6.6 rising near maximum R Hya 7.6 rising Theta Aps 5.8 near maximum T Cen 6.4 rising near maximum L2 Pup 7.5 near minimum R Pic 7.5 declining BH Cru 7.5 rising near maximum R Cen 8.4 rising near minimum U Ant 6.6 rising near minimum UY Cen 8.8 trying to rise IW Car may also be of interest at 8.3. This star has show only small variations in recent years (8.6 - 8.8 to my eye) and the last few nights has been clearly brighter. The V sequence on VSS RANSZ chart 861 seems messy to me but last night is was appraoching the brightness of 81 on the nearby R Car sequence. There may be some life in IW Car after all. Also, a few cepheids I observe: RZ Vel 7.1 declining l Car 4.3 near minimum (do not confuse it with R Car!!) U Car 6.9 delcining R Mus 5.9 near maximum SW Vel 8.0 declining near maximum. Hope these are of interest. One of the target stars will be R Carinae and I notice it's bright at the moment. But is it rising or falling - can anyone comment? What's the state of any other bright Miras? The CCD camera is broken at the moment, so that explains the lack of measures recently. But I hope to have a replacement tonight. Regards, Stan
