My first thought is not anything celestial, but instead "what sort
of detector flaw is involved?" Since this is evidently a composite image,
one would want to look at the three separate images to see what was
going on. It's always useful in this sort of situation to take multiple
images, especially if the telescope can be offset slightly, to see if
anomalies like this persist.
