[vsnet-chat 5562] Re: [AAVSO-DIS] V 4742 Sgr

The red stars appears to be the western star of two that are about
35" apart east-west. The position Stan quoted is for the eastern star,
but the GSC number was for the western star. The eastern star is a little
brighter in V, so it is probably best assigned the designation CD-25 12628.
The western red star is at: 18 03 14.40 -25 14 21.9 (J2000, UCAC1).
Tycho-2 shows V=11.2 and B-V=1.5 (large uncertainties, so no more decimals).
The star is a bona fide infrared-bright source: IRC -30347 =
IRAS 18001-2514 = MSX5C G005.1743-01.5120, and somewhat surprisingly is
also a ROSAT x-ray source 1RXS J180326.2-251556. Hansen & Blanco
(1975AJ.....80.1011H) give the spectral calssification as type M6.
So it is unsurprising that the star is variable.

You can look up all this catalogue stuff yourself using the Strasbourg
VizieR query utility starting at:

http://vizier.u-strasbg.fr/cgi-bin/VizieR

Just key-in the position and hit the 'find data' button, and it'll search
"everything". Actually before hitting the search button, change the
search radius to something reasonable like 30 or 60 arcsec, _not_ the
10 arcmin default value (that yields huge lists in crowded regions).
The catalogues searched, by the way, include the GCVS version 4.1 and
the NSV and NSVS.
